10-5-20   THOUGHTS

There’s an interesting story in Numbers 16.  Over and over in the Old Testament, God makes known graphically and instantly his will on a matter.  It doesn’t happen that way today.  And yet surely God’s will exists and we are subject to it!
Num 16:1-4    Korah with Dathan and Abiram, 3  They assembled together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, "You have gone far enough, for all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is in their midst; so why do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?"  4  When Moses heard this, he fell on his face;
God chose Moses with Aaron, this is blatant rebellion.  But it sounds so good.  “We’re just like you, so stop bossing us around”.  Moses knew that this challenge was not against him but against God!  He fell on his face!
A contest that God will judge is proposed.  It is to be MOST PUBLIC!   All will see the result!
The argument in verse 8-14 is ONE OF LACK OF CONTENTMENT.  “Hasn’t God done enough for you that you demand more?”   The contest occurs with disastrous results.  The rebellious Korah and his “men of renown” are miraculously swallowed up by a crack in the earth.
Num 16:38    "As for the censers of these men who have sinned at the cost of their lives, let them be made into hammered sheets for a plating of the altar, since they did present them before the LORD and they are holy; and they shall be for a sign to the sons of Israel."

So how do we know today when we are not pleasing to God?  Or pleasing for that matter?
Luke 16:27-31  "And he said, ‘Then I beg you, father, that you send him [poor Lazarus in Abraham’s bosom] to my father’s house —  28  for I have five brothers — in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ 29  "But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ 30  "But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ 31  "But he said to him,
‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’"
2Tim 3:15-17   and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  16  All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17  so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
Col 1:9-10    For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;  10  That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
2Pet 1:3   seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

My Prayer:
You Oh God,  have given us your words of life.  You have told of your love and grace and mercy in Christ Jesus.  We thank you, and beg that we will absorb this knowledge totally.  Having all things that we need for salvation, may we be content and joyful, longing for our home with you.
In the precious name of our Lord,                       Amen
